ASSAULT AND BATTERY
An assault is an act that intentionally puts another person in imminent apprehension of battery. Battery is the harmful touching of another person without permission or excuse. A conviction of assault or battery can lead to a term of imprisonment of probation depending on the nature of the force used, the criminal history of the accused and other characteristics of the victim.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
It is generally illegal to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, marijuana or other illegal drugs or mood-altering substances. A conviction of driving under the influence can lead to a term of imprisonment, or probation depending on the defendant's criminal history and whether there were any aggravated factors present at the time of the offense.
